Metro 2033 is a fantastic looking first-person shooter adventure game set in the tunnels of a Russian subway system, after the world’s surface has been decimated by an apocalyptic event - survivors of the event have been forced underground to dwell in the dark, dank depths of mazes of tunnels and sewer systems, to live out their lives as best they can.

The catalyst for your adventure through these tunnels, and eventually up to the surface, is the return of a previous inhabitant who has journeyed topside only to discover a new threat to humanity’s survival, and you are picked to aid him in warning what’s left of civilization of their impending doom.

Rainbows and sunshine aside, the game appears to be something of a mash-up between the scale and scope of Fallout 3, and the ‘linear’ (using that word lightly) mission-based approach of STALKER, with what seems to be a more scripted (but still open) experience.
