From sales data posted by Japanese Dengeki magazine and its parent firm, ASCII Media Works, it’s been revealed that Square Enix’s Dragon Quest IX on the DS is Japan’s top selling videogame for the period of December 29th 2008 to December 20th 2009, with sales of just over 4 million units.
Nintendo’s console dominance was extremely strong, with eight of the top ten best selling titles for 2009 showing up on the DS or Wii, with Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 (selling 1.5 million units) and Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G on the PSP (selling 880 000 units) showing up at No. 6 and No. 9 respectively.
The thirty title strong list is likewise dominated by games releases on Nintendo’s consoles, with nineteen titles out of the list released on the Wii or DS.
