Media Create Japanese Hardware Sales for week ending 24 Jan: Wii closes the gap on PSP

The PSP remains the king of the roost on the Japanese hardware chart, however, the Wii closes the gap further for the week ending the 24th of January. The latest Media Create figures show that the PSP sells 52 909 units while the Wii follows with 45 167 units, both down quite substantially from last week’s 71 186 and 57 349 units respectively.

The PS3 comes in third with 26 966 copies and the DSi LL is next with 24 059, the DSi with 20 373 and the DS Lite with 4 966. This brings combined sales of the DS to 49 398 units, in comparison to the total tally of the PSP which is 54 682. The Xbox 360 sells 3 343 units, the PS2 2 088 and the PSPgo 1773.

Valkyria Chronicles for the PSP debuted at number 2 with 94 000 copies on the Japanese software chart this week, with New Super Mario Bros. Wii re-claiming the number 1 spot with 111 000 copies. You can glance over the rest of the software chart here if you like.
