Yeah… I don’t know about this one either.
Citing “a concrete source speaking under conditions of strict anonymity,” VG247 is rumour-mongering that Sony’s announced and demonstrated PS3 motion controller device has an official name, and that name is ‘Arc.’
Formerly known as ‘Gem’ in underground publisher and developer circles, the PS3 motion controller (which quite frankly needs a proper name at this point, as does Project Natal) was first unveiled at E3 2009 and further demonstrated at TGS 2009, and comprises single or dual wand devices held in your hands, movement of which is translated into in-game movements, which can, for example, allow you to wield a sword and shield in a game by mimicking attacking and blocking movements with the wands.
Sony has re-confirmed that this motion device, whatever the name, will release this year.
In a statement regarding the possibility of the motion controller being named Arc, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (predictably) responded: “We don’t comment on rumour or speculation.”
What do you think of the name Arc? “The PS3 Arc” doesn’t sound too bad…
