Nintendo has revealed an official release date for the next iteration of their world conquering handheld, the DSi XL, which features not only a (much) larger screen, but a larger pen-like stylus in addition to a standard DS-style stylus… say that ten times fast.
The DSi XL (known as the LL in Japan) also comes standard with pre-installed DSiWare software Dr Kawashima’s: Little Bit of Brain Training: Arts Edition, Dictionary 6 in 1 with Camera Function and Flipnote Studio, and the Nintendo DSi Browser.
You’ll have the option of buying the console in either wine red or dark brown colours, but functionality on the inside of the console remains the same as that of the DSi – you’ll still be able to download DSiWare games, take photos with the cameras, and record and manipulate sounds.
While no price has yet been confirmed for the DSi XL in the UK, it is expected to be higher than that of the DSi, while a Nintendo representative noted:
“There will be a slight premium on the Nintendo DSi XL trade price to retailers compared to the Nintendo DSi, but as always, the final price to consumers is determined by the retailers.”
In Japan, the DSi XL (or LL over there) went on sale at ¥20,000 (or $217 and £134).
The release date for the DSi XL has been revealed as March 5th in the UK.
