EL33TONLINE: News archive for January, 2010
After yesterday’s excellent cinematic trailer for Heavy Rain, a new video has been released for the title, this time showcasing gameplay footage from the inside of a mall as the player freely roams around the corridors frantically looking for the protagonist’s son.
It gets pretty darn intense. Watch below:
Seems like it’s a good day for new game announcements, as Nintendo has revealed that a new Wii game is currently in development by Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey studio, Mistwalker.
Entitled The Last Story, a new Nintendo-hosted website has been set up with an official logo and some classy music, but other than that, next to nothing is known about the title, but judging by Mistwalker’s previous titles and (studio head) Hironobu Sakaguchi’s contributions to the videogame industry, it’s probably safe to say that The Last Story is an RPG.
Look out for more information on The Last Story in the near future.
It’s official! After over a year of exclusivity on the Xbox 360, Grand Theft Auto IV’s downloadable content, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, will soon become available for both the PC and PS3.
From March 30th around the world, PS3 and PC gamers will be given access to the two sets of add-ons, either as individual downloadable content (in which case you’ll need a copy of GTA IV) or as an all-in-one retail compilation called Episodes From Liberty City, comprising both The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony (in which case you won’t need a copy of GTA IV).
Rockstar’s Sam Houser enthused:
A new video interview with Aliens VS Predator project lead Tim Jones discusses the history of the Aliens VS Predator franchise, the backstory to the new game, the technology powering Rebellion’s latest title, and what this technology has enabled the developers to deliver in terms of atmosphere and authenticity with regards to the respective worlds of Alien/s and Predator.
The interview also has pieces of in-game footage from Aliens VS Predator spliced throughout, some of which you may not have seen before, showing off the visual prowess of what looks to be a mighty game.

Platinum Games’ (MadWorld, Bayonetta) new game was recently revealed, and by the looks of the CG (but imbued with live-action) trailer, this new title is going to once again take on the third-person action genre with all guns blazing… literally.
Entitled Vanquish, the story for the game is kicked off by an attack on the United States by an unknown enemy (could be aliens, could be human terrorists), and you are sent into battle as a suited up warrior of possibly ‘one-man-army’ proportions.
Other than these few details, nothing else is known about Vanquish, other than the fact that Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and Okami producer Atsushi Inaba are involved in the project.
You can watch the intriguing, excellently produced trailer for Vanquish below:
Available now on the US PlayStation Store is a pretty awesome piece of crossover downloadable content (DLC) called the Uncharted 2 Heroes Skin Pack, which allows you to play as one of seven of the PS3’s most recognisable characters from games such as Resistance, inFamous and Killzone 2, only in multiplayer in Uncharted 2! How cool!

The highly intriguing and intense looking first-person shooter/adventure game, Metro 2033, has been given a few release dates for the regions of North America, Europe and the UK, as well as Germany and Australia, via a status update on the game’s official Twitter page. From the tweet:
Rockstar Games has released a new documentary trailer for its upcoming Wild West inspired open-world game, Red Dead Redemption.
The second trailer in the gameplay series, titled ‘Weapons & Death,’ lets players get up close and personal with the weapons from the game. As John Marston players will get the chance to test out a wide variety of guns ranging from sniper rifles to Gatling guns…and when all else fails you can always count on a handy knife or fire bottle to do the trick.
Canadian developer Capybara Games has announced that a patch for their excellent, zany looking puzzle game Critter Crunch is now available.
The new patch adds XMB Audio support and means that language select will now be available for all. It also gives players a little bit of XP even if you lose in multiplayer.
The PSP remains the king of the roost on the Japanese hardware chart, however, the Wii closes the gap further for the week ending the 24th of January. The latest Media Create figures show that the PSP sells 52 909 units while the Wii follows with 45 167 units, both down quite substantially from last week’s 71 186 and 57 349 units respectively.
The first downloadable content for Uncharted 2 is now available worldwide on the PlayStation Store. Announced earlier in the week, the PlayStation Heroes Skin Pack will feature seven famous characters from infamous, Killzone 2 and Resistance 2.
Heavy Rain, the upcoming psychological thriller from Sony and Quantic Dreams, has gone gold in North America. The PS3 exclusive will be available across the US on the 23rd of February, on the 24th of February in Europe and on the 26th of February in the UK.
If you pre-order the game you’ll be able to download the first chapter of Heavy Rain Chronicles, the upcoming downloadable-only episodes for the game, for free (once you’ve actually got your copy of the game in hand of course). Otherwise you will have to wait a full month to get your hands on the episodes and it will cost you $4.99 per chapter to boot.
One week ago Gearbox Software revealed that it was working on a third add-on pack for its popular role playing shooter Borderlands. The developer assured us that the next round of DLC would be the biggest yet and would contain a level cap increase.
Now Gearbox has announced that the new expansion will be called The Secret Armoury of General Knoxx and will not only raise the level cap above 50 but introduce new weapons and enemies too in a “huge new environment.” We don’t know exactly when the new DLC will be available yet (other than this year) or how much it will cost, but we do know that the new quests will be aimed at players around level 34 to 50 and that it will be arriving on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Update A new post on the European PlayStation Blog has let everyone know that, while a set-in-stone release date for God of War III in Europe hasn’t yet been settled upon, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is “aiming to release God of War III across PAL regions during the same week” as the US version. We’ll know the exact date soon. End of Update
God of War III has just been slapped with an official US release date, and to go along with the announcement, a new trailer for the industry-stopping game will air on Spike’s Gametrailers TV on February 11th.
What’s that magical release date, though?
Alongside life-to-date sales numbers for Nintendo’s slate of software, the publisher also released sales numbers for its Wii and DS consoles covering their respective life spans, as they racked up 67 million and 125 million units sold respectively, worldwide.
Those figures can be broken down by region, thus:
