Chart-Track, a company that tracks, amongst other things, sales of videogame hardware and software in the UK, has revealed to GamesIndustry.biz that following the release of the PS3 Slim in the region, and the subsequent reduction in price of the standard PS3, sales of the console have sky-rocketed by nearly 1000 per cent.
Releasing last Tuesday (September 1st) in the UK, the PS3 Slim (and the accompanying price reduction) has helped the embattled PS3 console to an amazing sales boost, as the director of Chart-Track, Dorian Bloch explains:
“The uplift on week 36 on week 35 is plus 999 per cent,” said Bloch. “We don’t give out the hardware numbers, but never-the-less it’s a very large increase.”
This jump in sales follows the similar success of the PS2 Slim, which was released in the 44th week of 2004 and boosted sales of the PS2 by 310 per cent, although that console revision came much later than the comparative releases of the PS3 and PS3 Slim.
The price cut for the PS3 has also bolstered software sales for the console, as evidenced by the surge on display in this week’s Chart-Track Software Sales Chart for the UK.
Good news for Sony, good news for gamers.
