The latest patch for PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare includes an attempt at preventing would-be hackers and modders from gaining an unfair advantage in the game online.
According to a tweet from Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling, the patch “Fixes hacking in public matches,” at the same time sneaking in a “fix for rapid fire mods.”
The “fix for rapid fire mods” is of primary concern to online players of Call of Duty 4, as Infinity Ward have set a time limit in-between each shot of a semiautomatic weapon, limiting players to a shot every few half second or so for weaponry such as pistols and shotguns - this in an effort to circumvent a hacker being able to simply hold down the trigger and fire their weapons faster than the game intends to allow.
A segment of the CoD 4: Modern Warfare online community is up in arms about the decision to place a time limit on semiautomatic weaponry, as many players who are skilled enough to hold their own online are more than capable of squeezing off multiple rounds of gunfire within the allotted timelimit. These skilled players (and their inhuman abilities) are now being compromised by the patch, forcing them to curb their speed.
Multiple online petitions have already been put up in an effort to convince Infinity Ward to remove the patch, although it doesn’t seem to be going very well just yet. We’ll have to wait and see if Infinity Ward do indeed address these gamers’ issues, or disregard the pleas.
What do you think? Is this a serious issue or have you not been affected too drastically by the patch?

Comments:
ppl with mods have no skill if i get stuck with my 5.0 the quicker you press fire the quicker they die if this patch slows it down then cod4 has gone down in my estimation
To all who hate the new patch, blame the cheaters and hackers that have no skill to play the game with standard setting so they feel the need to mod there controllers and hack the game in order to gain an unfair advantage over players that actually have skill. The hackers complain about the new patch yet it is their fault that it was release.....morons.
Alot of you are upset over nothing. Ive destroyed pretty much everyone i played and i got bored which is the reason i got a mod on my controller. The only reason was to make the game more exciting. Non skilled players are the only ones who complain about mods because they are crap players to begin with. All of you get better at the game and you wont have anything to complain about. I think they should remove the patch for that reason.
