Become a PlayStation game Tester

The TesterEver wanted to work for PlayStation and test games? Well, now’s your chance! Sony has revealed its plans to create a new reality competition series for the PlayStation Network called The Tester.

The Tester will be a series of programs that follows a group of gamers facing off in various elimination challenges “designed to test their mental toughness, endurance, and video game knowledge as they compete for a job working as a PlayStation game tester.”

The elimination competitions will test the contestant’s videogame knowledge as well as their memory, stamina, dexterity and metal prowess.

Whoever wins the new show will walk away with a job working for PlayStation’s Quality Assurance department in San Diego as an official Game Tester, with promises to work on “some of the best PlayStation games.”

If you live in the US, are 21 years old and interested, you can complete the online casting submission form and upload a short video explaining why you would be a good contestant for The Tester. Hurry over to www.us.PlayStation.com/psn/thetester because open casting for the series begins today.

This is a great idea by Sony although I reckon it's more to do with promoting Sonys PSP and PSP3 than actually wanting to find a great game tester.

It's a cool job to have even if the pay isn't the best.

Becoming a game tester can be a stepping stone to bigger and better paid jobs in the industry. I used to be a tester but now work with the production side.

I agree that it's going to act more as a Sony promotional tool, but if someone ends up with a job that they're keen to explore, so much the better!

I have heard, however, that studios kind of frown on the idea that people use game quality assurance specifically as a stepping-stone to some other position in the company (as in, the only reason they want to get into QA is to become a designer, for example), even though that's still a valid path into other areas of game development.

Studios want dedicated and motivated testers, not people dreaming and wishing for 'better' things.

Thanks for the comment, Pete.

i would love this job as im a huge gamer

great idea sounds interesting, good for sony
