You may remember a little while ago that El33tonline and Megarom teamed up to bring you the Fantastic Friday Mystery PS3 Prize Hamper competition. What you may not know is that the contents of the hamper were not only a secret to you all, but so top secret that we didn’t even know what was up for grabs!
Oltman Botha was the lucky gamer who had to wait a short while for the prize to be delivered and his curiosity to be sated. Read below for his blow by blow account of unwrapping this awesome prize.
Ode from a gamer
“As I walked into the office, I saw the little brown box. It felt heavier than I thought it would. Must be some hardware for the new server system. So I did not open it right away. About 5 minutes later I get a phone call from reception: “Hi Oltman, package for you at reception.” This must be it! Woohoo!
I take a brisk walk, not to look too excited. Running down the corridors is a big no no. I have a reputation to uphold after all. I get the package. It looks disappointingly small. And light. My hope sinks into my shoes. And I have big shoes, with lots of room for sinking hope. I slowly cut open the tape sealing the precious items. Upon opening it I turn it upside down expecting a single disc to fall out. But instead a memory chip falls out onto my desk. Hang on, if this is the server memory, then what’s in the other box? It dawned on me that I was just way too greedy!
Of T-shirts and figurines
I throw the memory and its box away, grab the little heavy brown box and rip it open. I am greeted by blackness. At first I thought I passed out, but it was blackness from some T-shirts! Sweet! I need new PJ’s! One is for Aion, the new MMO from NCSoft. The second one is Guitar Hero Metallica. Funny how all promo shirts are always black…but I digress! There is more to discover!
Just like Columbus I move passed the unknown darkness and grab hold of a lanyard. Another black one with Aion branding. Top quality! As I pull it out I nearly get stabbed by Alex Mercer, the protagonist from the game Prototype. It’s an awesomely detailed figurine about 15-20cm tall. He looks angry at me. I gently put him back so he can nap a bit more.
Down to business…games!
Off to the side I see a few slim CD cases. Let’s get down to business! I wonder if they are in any sort of order. First up we have X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Uncaged Edition. Wow, I don’t thinks it’s in alphabetical order, as there won’t be many games left after this. It scores a respectable 73 on Metacritic and should be a nice addition to my collection.
Secondly we have Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen. A 63 score game that proves that most games based on action blockbusters are just bust without the block. Should be cool to see if they have Linkin Park in there, the best part of the movie.
Next up, 007 Quantum of Solace. Apparently the best Bond game since Golden Eye on the N64. I have played the demo before and it feels a bit like Gears of War, but with the famous Bond theme. Sweet!
And it just keeps on getting better!
This followed by Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. You can play as Spidey (or any other Marvel character) and team up with any other Marvel character. Nice! Really looking forward to this one!
Not really being a Metallica fan, I had the privilege of walking out of their show when they were in Durban a few years ago. Fatboy Slim was much better anyway. Now I will have the chance to do it all over again with Guitar Hero Metallica. In fact, I can make Lars and the gang fail miserably at their own songs, which will cause me a little bit of fun. Yay! See, I never look a gift horse in the mouth!
Finally, Shaun White Snowboarding is the white powder version of Tony Hawk Skateboarding (I stopped counting after Tony Hawk Pro Skateboarding 2). I always wondered if he changed his name to White to be more fitting to his chosen career, or is that just some kind of awesome coincidence? Either way, I am sure to have some fun with this later.
They are ALL mine
And that concludes the White Label games. I know there has been some controversy over selling these and giving them away is causing a lost sale for the developers, and stealing the food of their kids’ plates. Or something like that. But that won’t be a problem for me as I won’t sell them and I won’t give them away! They are mine, all MINE! MWUAHAHA!
But wait, way at the bottom of the box is another shiny item. It’s a full release, still sealed in it plastic wrap, of Sacred 2! A game that draws very mixed feelings from reviewers, it looks promising with couch co-op for 2 players, and great graphics. But since I don’t really fall into the trap of believing reviews, I will make up my own mind on all the games I received.
Thanks Lisa and the gang! And big up to Megarom for this awesome prize! Now how do I convince my wife I need a PS3???”
Thanks Oltman, we are sure you are going to enjoy your prize!
