The final attendance numbers for this year’s Tokyo Game Show (TGS) have been revealed by Kotaku, and it looks as though not as many public visitors were present at the show this year as compared to last year, while all categories of visitors this year are slightly down from last year.
TGS 2009 saw 185 030 people traversing the halls and corridors of the convention centre hosting the event. Compared to TGS 2008, with 194 288 visitors, and TGS 2007 with 193 040 visitors, it looks a little gloomy for the success of this year’s event, at first.
The breakdown of visitor categories tells a different story, though.
TGS is traditionally a four day event, with two days dedicated to videogame trade people (developers, publishers, exhibitors, journalists) while the remaining two days are open to the public, noted with ‘Business Day’ and ‘Public Day’ below.
TGS 2009’s third day, and the first day open to the public, saw a drastic decline in numbers (about 9 500 people) compared to TGS 2008’s day three, while the rest of the attendance figures for day one, two and four are only down a few hundred visitors from the same days during previous events.
Still a little cause for concern, but the number of public visitors at TGS 2009 is actually up in total, compared to TGS 2007.
