Exactly two years after the release of Halo 3, the follow-up to the Halo trilogy, Halo 3: ODST, sits at the top of Chart Track’s All Formats UK Software Sales chart in its debut week on sale.
Releasing last Tuesday (September 22nd), Halo 3: ODST managed to sell through 64% of its total first week unit sales in the first 24 hours of availability, earning it a place at No. 12 in terms of the biggest week 1 sell-through for a title on a single format.
Halo 3 ranks in at No. 4 on that particular scale, with GTA: San Andreas on the PS2 at No. 1, GTA IV on 360 at No. 2, and GTA IV on PS3 at No. 3, making up the top three best sellers in week one sales.
Professor Layton and Pandora’s Box on DS, another new title on the chart this week, debuts at No. 2, and helps the previous entry to the series, The Curios Village, with a 36% boost in sales.
Need For Speed: Shift is forced down the Top Ten sales chart this week, falling to No. 3 from No. 1 last week, despite a sales increase of 7%, while Guitar Hero 5 also falls two places to No. 4. Wii Sports Resort is a non-mover at No. 5, as Batman: Arkham Asylum takes a tumble to No. 6 from No. 4 last week.
Yet another new title, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, debuts at No. 7, pushing Colin McRae: DiRT 2 down to No. 8 this week from the lofty position of No. 3. WET falls to No. 9 from No. 6 last week, and Wii Fit, still hanging tough in the Top Ten, steps down one place from No. 9 last week to No. 10.
Other interesting movement on the chart this week includes the debut (another one!) of NCSoft’s massively multiplayer online game, Aion on the PC, which manages a place at No. 11. The Beatles: Rock Band is forcefully shoved out of the Top Ten this week, stepping down to No. 7 from No. 13, and MySims Agents (which went on sale last week for the DS and Wii) appears at No. 16 on the sales chart.
Wii Play, meanwhile, storms up the chart and hits No. 17 from No. 38 last week, as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 moves to No. 23 from No. 10 last week.
After enjoying a nice stay in the Top Ten, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare finally shifts down to No. 24 this week from No. 8, while Fight Night: Round 4 walks to No. 26 from No. 12 last week.
