The DS reclaims its reign on top of the Media Create Japanese hardware chart. However, despite monumental sales from both Pokemon SoulSilver and Pokemon HeartGold this week, the console only records a slight sales boost of roughly 9000 units.
Pokemon SoulSilver and Pokemon HeartGold, the newly released remakes of the classic Gold and Silver Pokemon games for the DS, dominated the top two positions on the Media Create software chart, selling nearly 1.5 million copies combined in Japan in just two days. SoulSilver claimed the top spot with 723 000 copies and HeartGold followed closely behind in second place with 720 000 copies.
The DS sold a combined total of 77 677 units for the week ending the 13th of September, with the DSi contributing the bulk of the sales of 66 498 units and the DS Lite 11 179 units (both up from last week).
The PS3’s sales boost as a result of the release of the PS3 Slim in Japan on the 3rd of September is short-lived. Last week the PS3 topped the hardware chart with a massive 151 783 units, but this week its sales decrease by almost a third, plummeting it to second place on the chart, but still placing it well ahead of the Xbox 360 which languishes in sixth place with 7 568 units. The PS3 still manages a respectable 55 344 units nonetheless.
The PSP follows with 18 375 units, while the Wii is next with 17 568 units, both down from last week’s tally. The PS2 rounds off the chart with 2 612 units.
