The Wii has emerged the best-selling console in Japan for the week ending the 2nd of August. Boosted by the release of the black Wii and Monster Hunter 3 for the Wii on the 1st of August, the Wii sold 95 357 units, roughly five times as much as last week according to the latest Media Create figures.
Monster Hunter 3 debuted at number 1 on the Japanese software chart with 520 000 copies, an impressive sales figure given that it was released in Japan on the 1st of August and it reached half a million copies in just two days. Check out the rest of the software chart here.
The DS followed with 85 737 units, the DSi selling 73 710 of that tally and the DS Lite 12 027 (both down from last week’s sales). The PSP was next with marginally more than last week, 33 049 units, while the PS3 was slightly down with 8 760 units.
The PS2 outsold the Xbox 360 again this week, with the PS2 selling 3 617 units and the Xbox 360 3 552 units, both up from last week.
