The ninth installment in the popular Dragon Quest series has sold an impressive 3.202 million in those three weeks.
Tomodachi Collection (Friend Collection) for the DS climbs two places to number 2 with 74 000 copies while Wii Sports Resort remains in third place for another week with 74 000 copies, up from last weeks 72 000 copies. Penguin no Mondai: Tenkuu no Senshi, a new game for the DS from Konami, debuts at number 4 with 43 000 copies, the first of four new entries this week.

Monster Hunter Portable 2G (Best) rounds off the Top 10 at number 10 with 18 000 copies.
Four titles fall out of the Top 10 this week, My Summer Vacation 4 for the PSP drops four places to number 11 and Hatsune Miku: Project Diva, also for the PSP, drops four spots to number 12. Pokemon Platinum for the DS falls five places to number 15 while Ys I & II Chronicles for the PSP falls to number 26 after debuting at number 6 last week.
Looking to next week
Monster Hunter 3 (-Tri) will be launching across Japan tomorrow, the 1st of August, so be sure to check back next week to see how this highly anticipated title does in its opening week. No doubt it will knock Dragon Quest IX out of the top spot and with an initial Japanese shipment of 1 million units, its launch day and opening week sales figures are sure to impress.
The black Wii will also be launching across Japan tomorrow which means that next weeks hardware chart will also be interesting. Expect sales of the Wii console to be fueled by the release of Monster Hunter 3 (-Tri) exclusively on the Wii and by the availability of the black Wii.
If you missed out on last week’s charts, catch up on the software numbers here and the hardware ones here
