Media Create Japanese Hardware Sales for week ending 28/06: Slight Wii sales bump despite Wii Sports Resorts selling 360K

Wii Console SmallerDespite Nintendo’s Wii Sports Resort selling 360 000 copies in its opening week in Japan, the Wii only saw a very slight increase in hardware sales from the week before. The Wii sold 21 790 units, marginally up from last week’s 19 386 units, testimony to the large install base of Wii’s in Japan.

It’s interesting to note that Media Create report a 84.98% sell through on Wii Sports Resort. Although the game comes bundled with the new Wii MotionPlus, 296 000 separate Wii MotionPlus attachments were also sold. The number of Wii Remotes sold increased from 13 000 to 30 000 while the number of Nunchuks flying off the shelf also increased from 8 000 to 27 000. A good week all around for Nintendo then.

The Nintendo DSi still tops the charts, selling 39 885 units this week, placing it well ahead of the PSP which comes in second with 26 789 units (both down from last week’s 40 464 and 27 884 units respectively). The PS3 is fourth with 11 310, up 1 000 units from last week, while the Xbox 360 drops marginally to 5 766 units.

The DS Lite follows with 5 595 units and the PS2 with 3 578. Combined sales of the DSi and DS Lite total 45 480 units this week, almost double that of the PSP.

Don’t miss this week’s software chart, with Wii Sports Resort debuting and no fewer than three PS3 titles entering the Top 10, its a real cracker!
