The DS retains its stranglehold on the Japanese hardware chart for the week ending the 19th of July. According to the latest Media Create figures, Nintendo’s handheld sold a combined total of 106 918 units, more than all the other consoles combined.
The DSi sold 96 986 units while the DS Lite sold 9 932, clearly showing that the effect of the strong Dragon Quest IX sales have not worn off yet. Dragon Quest IX debuted at number 1 on the software chart last week with 2.319 million copies, boosting sales of the DS to 128 363 units, while this week it sold an impressive 613 000 copies to retain the top spot.
Apart from the DS Lite all of the consoles recorded a slight decrease in sales this week. The PSP came in second again this week with 24 053 units while the Wii followed with 20 807 units. The PS3 was next with 8 865 units and the PS2 overtook the Xbox 360 again with the last-generation console selling 3 352 units, quite a bit more than the 360 which sold 2 899 units.
