Wii Sports Resorts sells 360K in its opening week in Japan

Wii Sports Resort BoxshotGiven that Wii Sports is widely regarded as the best-selling game of all time, having sold 40.52 million copies as at December 2008, the videogame industry has been eagerly waiting to see how the anticipated sequel from Nintendo, Wii Sports Resort, would fair.

The latest figures from Media Create show that Wii Sports Resort sold an impressive 360 000 copies in its opening week in Japan. Since the title was launched across Japan on the 25th of June, it reached this target in just four days.

It will be interesting to see what effect, if any, the Wii Sports Resort sales figures will have on the Wii’s hardware sales for this week. Media Create release the hardware results tomorrow so stay tuned and be sure to check back next week to see how Wii Sports Resort fairs in its second week on the charts.

Wii Sports Resort will be available across Europe and South Africa on the 24th of July, following two days later in the US on the 26th. Wii Sports Resort comes bundled with the new Wii MotionPlus accessory, which is also available separately or bundled with Grand Slam Tennis.
