A price listing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – Prestige Edition has appeared on the website of popular UK retailer, HMV, revealing the fee for which eager gamers (or those wanting fully functional night vision goggles) will be asked to pay for the bundle.
HMV, who have scooped the opportunity to be the UK’s sole proprietor of the Prestige Edition, lists the package at £120 on its pre-order page for the game
Additionally, the recommended retail price of the base Modern Warfare 2 game (which doesn’t come with anything fancy, just the manual, plastic box and game) has been set at £54.99, which is £5 more than the original Modern Warfare in 2007.
The price hike for Modern Warfare 2 has been attributed to a weaker Pound, which retailers say could affect game prices across the board this coming Holiday Season, and into the future. THQ’s Ian Curran said of the issue:
“Exchange rates between the Euro and the pound are making it very difficult for publishers to show an acceptable operating margin in the UK.
“You can’t continue to trade as normal when the biggest territory in Europe has seen cost of goods increase by 30 per cent due to the strengthening of the Euro,” continued Curran. “Publishers somehow need to offset this drastic increase in costs. I’m not surprised to see the [Modern Warfare 2] SRP go up and I feel this will continue across more key titles.”
The price of Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition in the US was also revealed earlier this week, coming in at a whopping $149.99.
