From a special notice on the Super Smash Bros. Brawl website, it was announced that, as of June 30th this year, the “current service that accepts user-generated snapshots, stage designs, and replay data will no longer be available.”
You’ll still be able to download data that has already been uploaded, says the notice, as Nintendo will continue to “distribute such data after that date.” There is no mention of whether or not online multiplayer will be affected by the announcement.
This news comes after only a year of Super Smash Bros. Brawl being available for the Wii, where, above and beyond the enormous cast of characters and unlocks available for the level-based brawler, it was possible to upload a host of your own data to the Brawl online service, including the above-mentioned “user-generated snapshots, stage designs, and replay data.”
Strange indeed, although you have to wonder how many people are still uploading data to the service…
