Chart Track UK Software Sales for week ending 06/06: Sims 3 takes top spot

The Sims 3 LogoThe Sims 3, to the surprise of no-one, has captured the top spot on the UK Software Sales Chart in its debut week on sale, coming five years after the release of The Sims 2, claiming the fourth biggest opening sales week for a PC game in the UK, behind Championship Manager 4 and World of Warcraft’s two expansion packs.

Another new title on the chart this week, Red Faction: Guerrilla, manages a chart placement at No. 2 this week, while UFC 2009: Undisputed steps down a few places to No. 3 from No. 1 last week.

EA Sports Active moves down to No. 4 this week from No. 3, as another fitness title and previous chart dominator, Wii Fit, follows up EA’s title with an entry at No. 5 from No. 6 last week.

Open-world superhero story, inFamous, moves to No. 6 this week from No. 5, whilst Pokemon Platinum tumbles to No. 7 from No. 2 last week. Guitar Hero: Metallica moves down four places to No. 8 from No. 4, Virtua Tennis steps down to No. 9 from No. 8 last week, and Terminator Salvation (somehow) manages to step up to No. 10 this week from No. 11.

Other interesting movement on the chart this week includes Fifa 09 being pushed out of the Top Ten to No. 11 from No. 7, open-world, off-road racer Fuel debuts at No. 12, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel debuts on PS3 and Xbox 360 at No. 15, Square Enix’s Star Ocean: The Last Hope debuts at No. 18, Wii Play also moves out of the Top Ten to No. 19 (from No. 10), Mystery Stories debuts at No. 20, X-Men Origins: Wolverine falls down to No. 22 from No. 9 last week, Grand Theft Auto IV drops to No. 36 from No. 24 last week and Resident Evil 5 stumbles and falls to No. 40 from No. 31.
