Black Nintendo Wii and Red DSi to go on sale in Japan
Nintendo have announced that a black Wii will go on sale in Japan on August 1st for the sum of ¥25,000 (roughly $260).
Black peripherals will also go on sale for prices ranging from ¥3,800 ($40) for a black WiiMote, ¥1,800 ($19) for a black Nunchuk and ¥2,000 ($21) for a black Classic Controller.
In addition, a new red DSi will also go on sale in the region on July 11th, which you can catch a glimpse of (as well as a full-sized pic of the black Wii) below:
There’s not yet any word on when (or if) these new colours will be available anywhere other than Japan.

WOW! It has certainly taken a long time for a new colour for the Wii to be announced...and they make it black? I thought it would be coming out in red or blue first. Still it does look interesting!
Well, you know what they say: "When sales are blue, introduce another hue"... or something.
That's true and sales have been flagging across Japan for a couple of months now. I suppose Nintendo would prefer to release the Wii in different colours to dropping the price of the console. New colour = guaranteed sales spike (especially in Japan!).
Well said Oliver. Given Microsoft and Sony's plan to encroach on the motion controllers (or lack thereof), I think Ninty better do a little more than paint a few Wiis a different colour.
Wow! These are awesome designs. I wonder why they only released these models in Japan only? If they'd release it in US I bet even Warcraft gamers will buy them!
Just to note: the black Wii comes out on the same day as Monster Hunter 3 in Japan!
I think that may be the day the world ends... or Nintendo make enough money to buy Earth.
well, that's a bit too late... I wonder if it will have any hardware modifications
@dave: Maybe it'll be able to play DVDs off the bat. Or maybe the Internet channel will be pre-loaded on there instead of you having to spend 500 points to buy it ;)
