E3 2009: Mysterious trailer and screens for Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box

Last night Nintendo revealed that Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box will be released across North America for the DS and DSi on the 24th of August.

Judging by the screenshots and animated trailer for the game, the Diabolical Box will adopt the same art style made famous by Level 5’s popular Professor Layton series. The title is known as Pandora’s Box in Japan, where gamers have eagerly been solving its mysteries for quite some time now (since November 2007 to be exact).

The story sees Professor Layton and his young apprentice Luke solving various puzzles as they attempt to solve the puzzle of who or what caused the death of Dr Shrader, the Professor’s mentor. It is believed that it could be the Elysian Box, rumoured to kill all who open it but the duo’s journey begins after they discover a train ticket for the Molentary Express.

In addition to a new mystery, gamers can look forward to over 150 new brain teasers, riddles and logic puzzles. You will also be able to download bonus puzzles via Wi-Fi, a new puzzle will be available each week for 33 weeks after the game launches. Fans of the series will be happy to know that the game includes a greater amount of voice work and animated movie scenes.
