Despite Nintendo revealing no fewer than three new Mario games (New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story) as well as a new installment in the popular Metroid franchise (Metroid: Other M), most fans were still not happy with the publisher’s E3 press conference last night. The reason has something to do with a rather well-known yellow-haired lad that resides in Hyrule kingdom with a fair princess.
And while many of the big names of Nintendo were on stage during the press event (Reggie Fils-Aime, Satoru Iwata and Cammie Dunaway), the presence of one famous man was sorely missed by most.
That man is Shigeru Miyamoto, he who created the legendary videogame characters that arguably helped to build the house of Nintendo, including Mario, Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda. He quite rightly holds the title of “the father of modern videogames” and if you need more convincing take a look at this list of Nintendo games that this videogame designer has created.
However, all hope is not lost because during an E3 roundtable conference Miyamoto revealed that a new Legend of Zelda title for the Wii is in development!
According to Miyamoto “To be honest with you, I really wanted to announce a Zelda game for Wii at this E3. But rather than think about something to bring you to show you, we really wanted to focus on actual game development.”
He then revealed a new illustration for the next Zelda title, an image of an older Link, hoping to show that the team is quite far into the development of the new game (Pictures were banned at the event so a picture of Link from The Twilight Princess is displayed here).
However, before you get your hopes up too high, the new Zelda title may only be released in 2011. Miyamoto would like to bring the title to gamers in 2010 but warns that it may take a little longer.
Miyamoto also revealed that the new game is likely to be compatible with Wii MotionPlus, in fact it may be playable only with the new accessory, depending on how well received Wii Sports Resort is. He then went on to briefly discuss his struggles to juggle the elements of an RPG with the action of swordfighting and archery.

I'm glad to see that there's another Zelda game coming out. In my honest opinion, I think that a new game once in a while that has great graphics and a stunning storyline is better than a bunch of games released very closely together without good graphics or a good storyline. The new Zelda game should be like SSB:M; SSB:M was an extremely fun game that you could play for hours on end. A combination of arcade, action, and role-playing is what's needed here.
Horseback battles side-by-side with customizable battlefields that can be played over the internet or with a LAN, or even split-screen would make a fun environment that you wouldn't get bored with easily. Every Zelda game so far is a good catch except for Link's Awakening. That one just... sucked. Anyway, a good Zelda game is what I'm willing to wait for. Hopefully we get a better combat system, more flexible controls, a newer storyline that is similar to the older games, and some killer graphics.
