Nathan Drake, he who is famous for witty one-liners and the mystifying half-tuck, is headed to the big screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter Columbia is developing Naughty Dog’s popular action adventure videogame, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, into a feature film. Kyle Ward will be tasked with writing the script while Avi Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner will be in charge of producing duties.
Ward is no stranger to game-to-film adaptations, having written Kane & Lynch (which stars Bruce Willis) for Lionsgate and working on Hitman 2 with 20th Century Fox.
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was released in 2007 exclusively for the PS3 and went on to sell one million copies in the first ten weeks of its release.
Almost everyone who played Uncharted enjoyed the game, including El33tonline who stated “this is an Indiana Jones or National Treasure experience in game form, and arguably does just about everything better than those movies do.” The sequel, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, will be released in stores this November.
Earlier in the year rumours were swirling that Matthew McConaughey could be cast as Nathan Drake, but there has been no confirmation yet as to who will be stepping into the role of Drake. Whoever he is, he will have big shoes to fill.
