Dio left out of Brütal Legend

Ronnie James Dio When Double Fine’s next game, Brütal Legend, was first announced at the end of 2007, Tim Schafer wrote a heartfelt news post about how Sierra (publishers of Brütal Legend at the time) were helping out the developers by attracting star heavy metal talent to provide voice work for the heavy metal-inspired action adventure brawler.

Included in the star-studded list of musicians was actor (and musician) Jack Black, Lemmy Kilmister from Motörhead, Rob Halford from Judas Priest and Ronnie James Dio from, amongst others, Black Sabbath, self-titled band Dio, and more recently, Heaven and Hell.

Now, a year and a half (and a change in publishers) later, it’s been revealed that Dio’s contributions to Brütal Legend won’t make the cut, as his character in the game will instead be played by actor Tim Curry.

Brütal Legend will still claim the vocal talents of more fan-favourite artists to provide voice acting for the game, such as Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford, but the exclusion of Dio is at least a little sad, as one of Metal’s key contributors won’t be present in what is otherwise an excellent line-up of music industry legends.
