The debut trailer for Activision’s upcoming music game DJ Hero has just hit the sound waves, and it’s rocking!
The game features a new turntable controller which includes a fully-rotating turntable, sample buttons, effects dial and cross fader. DJ Hero challenges players to master various DJ techniques as they play along to visual clues, using the turntable to scratch, blend, cross fade and sample music, as well as adding various effects and samples to create their own music.

Multiplayer gameplay means that two players can battle it out competitively or a player can emcee over any track in the game using a microphone. The DJ-guitar exclusive mixes played with a turntable controller and Guitar Hero guitar controller mean that players can also rock together.

DJ Hero will include Hip-Hop, Pop, R & B, Electronica and Rock artists such as Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cent, Justice, Marvin Gaye, Beck, Beastie Boys and N.E.R.D. The game includes over 100 individual songs that have been transformed into more than 80 exclusive original mixes by popular DJS including DJ Shadow, DJ Z-Trip and DJ AM.
Activision also revealed that Jay-Z and Eminem will contribute some of their popular songs to the game. The duo will also collaborate on a special branded edition of the game that will include an advanced version of the turntable controller, a metal travelling case that transforms into a DJ stand and two exclusive music CD compilations featuring greatest hits and new mixes from each artist. In addition both Jay-Z and Eminem will provide downloadable content later this year.
“A DJ has the ability to use music to control people’s emotions and is responsible for the entire vibe of a room, a club or a party,” said Jay-Z. “DJ Hero is the first video game that allows everyone to enjoy the unique experience of creating that environment.”
“I came up doing freestyle battles on local stages with other MCs and DJs,” said Eminem. “DJ’ing is an essential part of hip-hop and DJ Hero will give people all over the chance to experience the music from the other side of the turntables.”
Currently in development at FreeStyle Games, DJ Hero is scheduled to be available for the Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and Wii this October.
