Blur is “set to revolutionise the racing genre,” says Activision

“Activision Publishing is set to revolutionise the racing genre with the debut of Bizarre Creations’ newest project, Blur - the ultimate wheel-to-wheel racing action experience.” Well, that’s what they say, anyway…

Blur, a new racing game from Bizzare Creations and Activision, sounds like a hyped up version of classic racing series Burnout, as 20 cars on the same track compete to reach the finish line first, while using power-ups to gain advantages over the other competitors.

Players will also have access to offensive and defensive attacks while driving around real-world locations such as LA and San Francisco (USA), Barcelona (Spain) and Hackney (UK - ?!).

Blur also promises a dynamic, story oriented experience as players use Bizarre’s new community-based interface to “compete in different races, make new friends, rivals and fans, and connect with other racers both in-game and in real life.” In addition to the singleplayer campaign, players will also be able to enter online races as well as take advantage of the four-player split-screen option.

Creative director at developer Bizarre Creations, Martyn Chudley commented: “We did our homework and saw a huge opportunity to move beyond traditional racers and create a game completely focused on making racing ‘fun’ again.

“Blur delivers a new style of racing experience for all gamers, regardless of their experience, skill or genre preferences. Everything the player does, both in their cars and with their cars, is a dramatic adrenaline rush; it’s a real blast!”

Blur has a planned release window of ‘Autumn’ on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
