EA and Maxis have revealed two new entries to the Spore franchise in the form of Spore Hero for the Wii and Spore Hero Arena for the DS, with screenshots accompanying the announcement.
Spore Hero on the Wii aims to deliver the same level of creative freedom as the original Spore on PC, only this time packaged in a story-driven, action-adventure title, as players create their own hero and “embark on an epic quest to save their new home world from destruction as a dark force threatens the planet.”
Spore Hero also features an enhanced version of the Spore Creature Creator, as players are tasked with finding new parts as they go about their adventure to customise their hero and gain access to new abilities.
Spore Hero Arena for the DS, on the other hand, builds on the features found in Spore Creatures (also on DS), placing you and your custom created creature in an arena-based combat game, moving from one planet to another, defeating each planet’s local champion, growing stronger and gaining more abilities along the way.
You’ll also be able to pit your own creature against three friends with the multiplayer options in Spore Hero Arena, or play with a friend over Wi-Fi.
VP and General Manager at Maxis, Lucy Bradshaw commented on the additions to the Spore franchise, saying: “When Maxis first considered bringing Spore to console players, the Nintendo platforms jumped out as a perfect fit.
“Whether it is the stylus-driven action of the Nintendo DS or playful controllers of the Wii, the massive Nintendo audience is the ideal home for Spore Hero and Spore Hero Arena. Nintendo fans will love the humor, ability to create their own Hero, fun gameplay and immersive storylines we’re creating for these two games.”
