As those of you that have bought and downloaded the extra game mode for Resident Evil 5, Versus Mode, may have seen, the download isn’t particularly large - at 1.8MB for Xbox 360 and 351KB on the PS3, it is particularly small for a bit of downloadable content (DLC).
This has led a bunch of people to the conclusion that the new mode was on the original retail disc all this time, and Capcom just wanted some extra cash to ‘unlock’ the mode with a downloadable key once the game was released. Capcom Vice President, Christian Svensson however, says otherwise:
“Keys are 100K or less. It is not a key. We have said in the past, it uses assets from the disc (like levels, models, audio, etc.) but the code is new and does not exist on the disc.”
And that’s the end of that… or is it?
