Final Fantasy XIII running at 30 fps at 720p, other morsels revealed

In a Famitsu (Japanese game magazine) interview with the Final Fantasy XIII director and scenario writer, Motomu Toriyama, a few more tiny details about the game have been revealed.

Final Fantasy XIII Art First off, the game is running at 30 frames per second at a resolution of 720p, which while standard is nice to know, hopefully never venturing down into the lower (or even upper) 20 frames per second rate.

Another small titbit is that the team is optimising the text resolutions for both high-definition and standard-definition televisions, so if you have a standard-definition TV, you won’t be left squinting your eyes to read through the (no doubt) countless lines of text, as in Dead Rising and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

Another piece of information prospective Final Fantasy fans may want to know is that the cut-scenes are now either able to be paused or skipped, ala Metal Gear Solid 4 (although maybe they should consider being able to fast forward and rewind as well, not ala MGS4…).

Lastly, Toriyama has said that they’ve “almost finished all the parts of the game… from now on, it’s a matter of putting them together.” Also, even though the battle design work is almost complete, the team will give the battle system another pass before the final release.

So does it all sound good for a 2009 release in Japan? We’ll have to wait and see…
