Media Create Japanese Hardware Sales for week ending 19/04: PS3 sales spike, Wii stabilises

PS3It’s a funny week in the Japanese Hardware Sales this time, but not funny ‘Ha Ha,’ more like funny ‘Wait until December this year.’ Why is that?

Well, this week, the PS3 sales in Japan spiked by an incredible margin – 45 826 units to be exact, ending the week on an incredible 62 527 units. What sparked this incredible leap? Why, just the Final Fantasy XIII demo (which released with the Japanese version of Final Fantasy: Advent Children – Complete), of course.

So, if a demo can spike the sales of the PS3 by over 45 000 units, just wait until the full version of the game releases at the end of the year in Japan.

Other consoles weren’t as fortunate, however, as unit sales remained roughly the same as last week – the biggest sales drop was experienced by the DSi, with sales falling by 2000 units to 38 287. PSP sales were down slightly to 40 065, while Wii sales were up by a miniscule amount, reaching 13 221 units sold this week.

Xbox 360 sales fell a little way to 8 652 units this week, the DS Lite sales were down by a fraction to 6 438 and the PS2, still hanging tough, sold 4 230 units this week, down by a few hundred from last week.

Check out last week’s Japanese Hardware Chart for a neat comparison, and don’t miss yesterday’s Japanese Software Chart to see what games are hot right now in Japan. This week’s Japanese Hardware Chart follows below:
