The Major has recently announced that your Xbox 360 needs a new little update that does… just what does it do, Major?
“This update addresses interruption issues that some Xbox LIVE users may have experienced when playing a limited number of Xbox 360 games. There are no other changes or enhancements in this update…in other words no new features.
“Thanks for your patience.”
No Major, thank you!

My Xbox 360 just updated after it logged on. Now I find my amp auto detects Dolby Digital as normal from the consloe, but there is no sound, I have to slect stereo. On the other hand Tomb Raider Anniversary doesn't play intro music on the video sequence, but in game music plays, but no sound effects until I reselect stereo. I am experienced in the home sound system arena and have checked everything. I have console set up with HDMI (1080P) and toslink with optical. Would you suggest this problem is indeed a consequence of the latst update and I was wondering if you had heard of any other users reporting the same problem. Everything was fine until now. Thanks.
Sorry Anthony, we haven't heard of any other users reporting the problem. Keep an eye on Major Nelson's blog, if there were any problems they would surely be reported there.
Good luck!
After a long period of no use, I finally logged on and let my Xbox 360 update. I quickly discovered a sound problem as Anthony mentioned. My Xbox is connected to my A/V with the Toslink optical cable and after the update, I would only hear the intro "Xbox sound" then nothing. Unfortunately I was unaware of this post and spent an hour on the phone with Xbox Tech Support only to have them tell me to send my console in for a $100.00 repair. Because what they told me did not make much sense, I decided to look further into the problem. For some reason, it seems after the Xbox turns on and does it's intro thing, the audio signal to my Denon A/V switches to PCM and the sound vanishes. I have to manually reset my A/V to auto for dolby and then the audio works absolutely fine. Never had an issue until the last update. Hope this helps if anyone else experiences a similiar issue!
