Nintendo has revealed that consumers who purchase the new Nintendo DSi during the first six months after launch will receive 1000 Nintendo DSi Points after connecting to the Nintendo DSi Shop. The announcement was made during Nintendo President Satoru Iwata’s keynote address at GDC today.
The new Nintendo DSi goes on sale across the United States on the 5th of April and consumers who purchase it will be able to redeem the Nintendo DSi Points for downloadable Nintendo DSiWare games and applications if they access the shop by the 5th of October, although the points can be redeemed at any time after that.
The Nintendo DSi Shop will work similarly to the WiiWare service in the Wii Shop Channel. It will feature various downloadable DSi games and applications that will be available at four different price categories: free, 200 points, 500 points and 800+ points. You will be able to purchase points using a credit card or a Nintendo Points Card which will be available at retail outlets from the 5th of April.
Iwata offered only a glimpse of upcoming DSiWare games and applications including Moving Memo and WarioWare: Snapped! Moving Memo enables users to create animated digital flipbooks of their own design while WarioWare: Snapped! makes use of the DSi Camera functionality. Other games mentioned included Birds & Beans and Art Style: Aquia, both touted to be fun mini-games.
