EA have recently confirmed that the next entry to the Need for Speed series, Need for Speed: SHIFT, will be releasing this September on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PSP and PC. This new version leans much more towards the side of racing simulator, rather than the arcade racer genre that previous Need for Speed games could be slotted into.
As such, it’ll feature a host of realistic sounding features, such as “perception based G-forces, the hyper reality of the cockpit view, and the all-new brutally disorienting crash dynamic” as well as “an accurate, accessible physics-based driving model that allows you to feel every impact, every change of track surface and every last bit of grip as you push yourself to the edge.”
Sounds painful.
Senior Vice President at EA Games Europe Patrick Soderlund comments; “With Need for Speed SHIFT, we set out to create a racing game that pushes the genre and delivers something never before seen in a Need for Speed title. By focusing on the driver’s experience through the first-person view, we are able to capture the high-speed intensity and gripping emotions of racing.”
Need for Speed: SHIFT will also feature a large roster of high-performance race cars such as the Pagani Zonda F, Porsche 911 GT2 and Lotus Elise, while being able to race around realistic tracks, such as the historic Brand’s Hatch track in the UK.
Need for Speed: SHIFT releases on September 17th in the UK, Europe and South Africa, and September 22nd in the US. You can watch some fresh footage from the game below:
