Japanese Sales Data: Media Create hardware sales for 09/03 – 15/03

Carnival Colours PSPSony dominated the hardware chart yet again this week thanks to strong sales of PSP and PS3 software titles.

The PSP was once again the best-selling console in Japan, recording sales of 43 463 units for the week ending the 15th of March. Even with three PSP games in the Top 10 (Shin Sangoku Musou, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G and Resistance Retribution), the PSP did suffer quite a steep decline in sales from last week’s 59 568 units which were boosted by the release of new colours.

The PS3 was next with 28 014 units, helped along by Musou Orochi Z which topped the software chart with 112 000 copies, as well as Resident Evil 5 for the PS3 and Yakuza 3 which also claimed Top 10 spots. Even so, the console plummeted from last week’s impressive 39 835 units, sales of which were spurred on by Resident Evil 5’s debut.

The DSi sold 27 564 units while the Wii was one of two consoles to experience an increase in sales this week, up marginally to 17 941 units, with the DS Lite also going up slightly to 11 571 units. Combined sales of the Nintendo DS totalled 39 135 units.

Sales of the Xbox 360 almost halved this week with only 8 378 units sold, and the PS2 continues to limp along with 4 844 units.

Stay tuned for next week’s hardware numbers – with the PSP being released in Japan in Bright Yellow and Spirited Green on the 19th, things are bound to be exciting!
