Resident Evil 5 has predictably managed to steamroll the competition, shooting straight to No. 1 on Chart Tracks’ UK All Formats Software Chart this past week, despite only being on sale for two days.
Resident Evil 5 has also become the fastest selling entry to the series, and Capcom’s biggest launch game ever. The Xbox 360 version of Resi 5 claimed 55% of overall sales, while the PS3 version accounted for 45% of the total sales.
Resident Evil 5 also manages to surpass Call of Duty: World at War’s second week of sales and Fifa 09’s Christmas sales week, representing 27.1% of all revenue from consoles games this week. The title also outsells the rest of the Top Ten titles this week combined, even only by a little bit.
As for the rest of the chart, Wii Fit (sales down 15%) places itself up at No. 2 from No. 3 last week, Tom Clancy’s HAWX (sales down 20%) moves up from No. 4 to No. 3, as Professor Layton and the Curious Village (sales down 20%) jumps up to No. 4 from No. 6 last week.
Killzone 2 (sales down 53%) slips down to No. 5 this week from No. 2, Fifa 09 (sales down 13%) moves up to No. 6 from No. 8, Call of Duty: World at War (sales down 14%) steps up to No. 7 from No. 9 last week.
Empire: Total War, last week’s No. 1 and Killzone 2 dominator slides all the way to No. 8 this week on the back of a 70% drop in sales, Halo Wars (sales down 61%) hangs in there at No. 9 from No. 5 last week and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games re-enters the Top Ten at No. 10 from No. 17 last week, as a result of a retailer promotion.
