Due to a weakening Pound in the UK, resulting in lower profits on sales of the console, Nintendo will be raising the price that retailers will pay for their Wii stock. This will have a knock-on effect as retailers will bare the burden of lower profits on each console sold.
The Wii currently retails for £179.99, or $247.93, in the UK. Reports indicate that retailers will be forced to pay up to £19, or $26 (including tax), more for each console. A Nintendo spokesperson said of the matter:
“Due to the severe and continuing depreciation of the pound, we are, unfortunately, having to raise our trade price to UK retailers of Wii hardware.”
It is possible that we will see retailers simultaneously raising the price that consumers will pay for a Wii in the UK across the board, in an effort to eek out as much profit as possible from the highly sought-after console.
