Crytek set to unveil ready-for-console CryEngine 3 at GDC

Crytek, independent game developers based in Germany and creators of the Far Cry franchise and PC-only title, Crysis, are set to unveil their new console-ready engine, CryEngine 3, at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco later this month.

Crytek LogoCryEngine 3 is a new direction for the company, having previously focussed their efforts on PC development with CryEngine 1 and 2, while the new engine will include support for Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as DirectX 9 and 10 for the PC. Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli commented:

“Our complete game engine solution enables realtime development, ensures teams are able to maximise their own creativity, saves budget and creates greater gaming experiences. Also with our solution developers can start working on their next generation games today.”

Crytek’s business team will be demonstrating the new engine at GDC this year, as well as conducting meetings with potential licensees, as CryEngine 3 is most likely to appear even more appealing to game developers and publishers looking for an all-in-one development solution for future titles, rather than being hamstrung to the PC only.
