News has hit the wires that Blizzard, venerated creators of Diablo, Starcraft and World of Warcraft, will not be attending E3 this year, which makes it two years in a row that Blizzard will skip the event.
Instead of using the time it would usually take to set up for the massive industry event, such as creating custom-crafted demos, videos and screenshots to show at the expo, Blizzard are content to ‘stay at home’ and continue work on their highly anticipated games, Diablo III and Starcraft 2, as well as the continuing work on World of Warcraft. Head of Blizzard US PR, Bob Colayco said:
“[Regarding] E3, our current focus is on the ongoing development of Diablo III, StarCraft II, and World of Warcraft. We are already planning to participate in a number of shows this year and look forward to sharing the latest news on our games at these events.”
While this move may lead to speculation about a BlizzCon 2009 appearing on the calendar some time soon, Colayco didn’t confirm or deny any such plans, saying:
“BlizzCon 2008 was our most successful ever, with exciting news on all of our games, and the most attendees we’ve ever had at any BlizzCon. We’re looking forward to doing more events in the future, but have not announced a ‘BlizzCon 2009′ at this time.”
The other half of the Activision Blizzard equation, however, will be attending E3 this year, so a showing of the latest developments to come out of Blizzard are still on the cards. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Comments:
I think that since they changed the E3 format a couple of years back, it hasn't been the same. Watch more and more companies pull out of it in favor of other, better shows (TGS, CES, PAX, etc)
I think we have to wait and see after this E3, seeing as how they're proclaiming it to be 'bigger and better' than last year - they've even roped in EA and Ubisoft again, who both publicly declared their dislike for the format last year.
Depending on the response to this year's E3, its future will be determined.
