According to joint data released by NPD, GfK Chart-Track and Enterbrain, the top three sales tracking companies with regards to videogames, Dragon Quest IX on the DS was the number one best selling game across the UK, the US and Japan in the third quarter of the year, despite only being available in Japan.
This data is contained in the companies’ joint Top Global Market report, which according to Edge Online, revealed a 15% increase in overall software sales during the third quarter in Japan, compared to a 20% decline during the same period last year.
Overall software sales in the US and UK during the third quarter (from July to September) saw a decline, however, down 19% in the UK and 9% in the US.
The report also detailed the remaining top five game sales for this period, which includes Halo 3: ODST, Wii Sports Resort, Madden NFL 10 and Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, including sales figures for each title, which are as follows:
- Dragon Quest IX (Square Enix) - 3,925,000
- Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo) - 3,014,000
- Madden NFL 10 (EA) - 2,612,000
- Pokémon HeartGold And SoulSilver (Nintendo) - 2,068,000
- Halo 3: ODST - 1,847,000
