Private chat between players during online Xbox 360 gaming may soon become a thing of the past, as Microsoft is giving developers the option of leaving out the option for their future games.
Currently, Xbox 360 gamers are allowed to chat amongst themselves during a game, even chatting privately to specific players if they wish.
This has opened up cheating loopholes in online games such as Gears of War and Call of Duty as it allowed players on the same team to inform one another as to the positions of their enemies, even after their involvement in a current round of the game (after death, for example) had come to an end.
Now with Microsoft’s permission, this form of cheating may become a thing of the past, as future games, such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, will be able to force players to choose to play the game and join the overall game chat (i.e. not private), or stay in a private chat and not join the game.
The only real downside to this (unless you can think of more) would be how it affects gaming friends who are playing different games at the same time, but wish to speak to one another, regardless, in a private chat.
Otherwise, it seems like a solid solution to an ongoing problem.

this is probably the stupidest thing i've read in a while.
Please elucidate.
This is BS. first death streks to help out scrubs then no dedicated servers on the pc version. then a game ending nuke kill streak. and now this.
Screw IW im not buying any version of this game now. I don’t want to talk to random annoying racist people. even if they remove party chat im muting everyone except my friends.
IW fails. Reply
Ok so I can kinda understand the concern, but online gaming is for many people, a form of competition. If you and a few of your friends are on a team, whats the problem about communicating to win!? Thats not cheating, thats strategy and teamwork! Ive run into some annoying players in general chat and I prefer the choice to talk to just friends
