Talking to Eurogamer, Naughty Dog multiplayer designer Justin Richmond has made it known that downloadable content (DLC) for the studio’s soon-to-be-released action adventure extravaganza, Uncharted 2, will be coming down the pipe in the near future.
Concerning post-launch support for the game, Richmond said that he will be “working on DLC stuff for the next while,” before going on to say, “There will be downloadable content, yes.”
Explaining what we can expect in DLC for Uncharted 2, Richmond said: “What you’ll probably see is more of the competitive type: more maps, more modes, stuff like that.”
According to Richmond, however, cooperative multiplayer isn’t a primary DLC concern at the moment, as content creation is “hugely time-intensive,” also citing the physical download size as a problem for co-op content, saying, “[it’s] huge, so that’s probably not an option.”
“I’m not going to say never,” Richmond declared, “but for the foreseeable future we’re not going to be doing that.”
Speaking on what’s next for Naughty Dog, Richmond admitted his fondness for cooperative experiences, and how the development studio could help define the genre:
“Naughty Dog does a really good job of defining things,” said Richmond, “and I think no one’s really done a definitively amazing amazing co-op experience and I think we can do that, and it’s something that at some point we’ll tackle. If I have my say, then that’s what we’d do.”
Regarding a possible third instalment in the saga of Nathan Drake and the story of Uncharted, Richmond hinted and teased: “There are whole parts of Drake that we haven’t talked about at all yet. Drake is sort of a nice character in that there’s a bunch of stuff about his past that we know but nobody else does.
“You’ll see that… But there’s a lot more of Drake to show, for sure.”
If you own a PS3, and you have a pulse, there’s a good chance you’re at least a little excited for the release of Uncharted 2 next week (!), so be sure to have a look through El33tonline’s previous coverage of the title for more information, screenshots and videos.
