Call of Duty trademarked for movie use

According to trademark information and news website Trademork, mega publisher Activision recently filed a trademark for ‘Call of Duty’ to protect the company’s exclusive use of the name for “pre-recorded movies featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure, music, theatrical performances and/or animation.”

Filed on September 21st, this trademark suggests that Activision is looking to give the long-running (and highly successful) Call of Duty series the movie treatment, or at the very least reserve their opportunity to do so.

What makes this a little interesting is a recent Twitter entry by Infinity Ward’s Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling (no longer a community manager?), revealing that he was in Paris “talking game films” with Xavier Gens, the director of the Hitman movie.

Not a confirmation of a Call of Duty film, then, but after months of rumours and speculation, it’s enticing nonetheless.

If a Call of Duty film is going to happen any time soon, though, it would probably only coincide with a game release in 2010, perhaps based on similar storylines, seeing as how the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is only a month away.
