EA’s latest football game, Fifa 10, has managed a massive launch, effortlessly muscling into the top spot on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart in its first week on sale, becoming the biggest No. 1 launch in the UK since GTA IV, and generating 48% more sales than Fifa 09 exactly one year ago, making it the biggest launch of a Fifa football game ever.
This has placed Fifa 10 at the 2nd biggest all formats launch in the UK (releasing on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii and PC) behind GTA IV (on PS3 and Xbox 360), and in front of GTA: San Andreas (which only launched on PS2).
The Xbox 360 version of Fifa 10 enjoys a 2 percentage point sales share over the PS3 version, with 48% of sales going to Microsoft’s console, and 46% going to Sony’s console, while the other platforms make up the remaining 6%.
As for the rest of the chart, Professor Layton and Pandora’s Box is a non-mover at No. 2, as Halo 3: ODST (last week’s No. 1) slips down to No. 3 on the back of a 75% drop in sales, but only 300 units behind Professor Layton.
Need For Speed: Shift steps down to No. 4 from No. 3 last week, while Wii Sports Resort is another non-mover at No. 5, with the help of a 33% sales increase thanks to the new Wii Sports Resort and Wii hardware bundle.
Guitar Hero 5 moves down to No. 6 this week from No. 4, as MySims Agents surges into the Top Ten from No. 16 to No. 7. Another non-mover in the form of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 sits comfortably at No. 8.
Mario Kart Wii manages to jump into the Top Ten (once again) by moving up to No. 9 from No. 12 last week, while Batman: Arkham Asylum hangs in the Top Ten, moving from No. 6 to No. 10 this week.
