After the first reveal of Disney and Junction Point’s Epic Mickey in Game Informer, the news has officially been announced – Disney Epic Mickey, a platform adventure game featuring the adventures of a reinvented Mickey Mouse, will be releasing on the Wii in the Fall of 2010.

Disney Epic Mickey tells the tale of Yen Sid’s Cartoon Wasteland, a world created by the powerful sorcerer Yin Sid, where Disney’s forgotten and retired creations to live, and continue to live and flourish. Walt Disney’s ultimate forgotten creation, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (created in 1927 and Walt Disney’s first cartoon star) becomes this world’s first resident after the creation of Mickey Mouse.

As the years go by, Oswald becomes bitter at Mickey’s rise in popularity outside of the Cartoon Wasteland, and his anger is flared when Mickey, after stumbling upon Yen Sid’s map of the Wasteland, accidentally devastates Oswald’s world, pulling Mickey into the mysterious Cartoon Wasteland to face, and ultimately put right, the devastation he caused.

Using the WiiMote, players will be able to take control of a magical paintbrush, and with it magical paint and paint thinner, to create, destroy and change the world around them in real-time in order to better progress through the game. How players choose to use these tools is entirely up to them, but will result in consequences that affect the environment, Mickey’s interactions with other characters, and his very appearance, too.

Game industry legend Warren Spector, who is heading up the project at Junction Point, commented:

“Mickey is an adventurous and rambunctious mouse. I want to bring his personality to the forefront, place him in a daunting world and connect his spirited character with video game players worldwide. Ultimately, each player decides for him- or herself what makes Mickey cool.

“The core of this game is the idea of choice and consequence, and how that defines both the character and the player,” continued Spector. “By putting the mischievous Mickey in an unfamiliar place and asking him to make choices - to help other cartoon characters or choose his own path - the game forces players to deal with the consequences of their actions.

“Ultimately, players must ask themselves, ‘What kind of hero am I?’ Each player will come up with a different answer.”

Disney Epic Mickey is sounding (and looking) spectacular, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more information leading up to its release next year on the Wii.
