Modern Warfare 2 third person mode is real, and a new Playlist

Rumours recently started doing the rounds regarding a supposed third person mode present in the upcoming first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, after a low quality video (which you can view below) surfaced on the ‘net revealing the game being played in this distinctly different perspective (i.e. third person).

The only reason it remained a rumour, however, was because no-one at developers Infinity Ward had confirmed it yet, which was only a matter of time.

At first, Infinity Ward’s Creative Strategist (and Community Manager) Robert Bowling suggested that anyone “wanting a spoiler free and pure Modern Warfare 2 experience” would be better served by going on a “media blockout,” and refusing to view any further information about Modern Warfare 2 until they had the game in their hands, ready to play.

That is until he confirmed the existence of the third person mode:

“Yes there’s a leaked video,” Bowling posted on Twitter. “Yes it confirms a new Playlist type in [Modern Warfare 2] & yes it’s why I recommend a media blackout.”

Bowling then went on to further explain the reason behind including the mode, saying “3rd Person is a new playlist mode in Multiplayer. So you can play your favorite playlists [or] game types, like Team Deathmatch just standard, or in Hardcore mode ([with] limited HUD and increased bullet damage) or in the new 3rd Person mode, which means you and everyone in the game is in 3rd person.”

“When you’re in a 3rd Person playlist,” Bowling continued, “you can’t toggle in and out, you’re always in 3rd person. You can’t toggle 3rd person view on or off in a standard game type either, people in 3rd person can’t play with people in 1st person, they’re entirely different game modes. This is just another way to play the game.”

After this unfortunate information leak, things just can’t seem to get any worse for the launch of Modern Warfare 2… or can they?
