You're an idiot, the PC version players make up the minority of the Modern Warfare 2 collective, 1.6 million pre-orders for XBOX and 600K for PS3. There are 135K you say who signed this petition? That makes up 0.61% of all pre-orders. And you wonder why they have responded with a "not-very-promising" answer. Seriously give it a rest. if they lost all of the PC community do you really think it would make any difference at all? Also, how can you think they would be able to redesign a huge section of development in just one month. This isn't a bash on the PC community either as not all PC gamers have signed this petition. Not sure the console boys realise the rammifications this has for other CoD titles. The modding community pretty much are the creative development for the next title. As for being able to rewrite code to put dedi servers back in, fairly simple port of the existing CoD4 code released as a patch would suffice. After all the main mechanics and engine of MW2 is the same as MW1. IWnet and dedicated servers could quite easily coexist side by side actually giving gamers the "choice" IW seems to crow about so much but fail to deliver.

Ok Big Nate, my fellow console player friend, consider this if you haven't looked outside the box...millions of players have played games with a keyboard and mouse before you. Mouse/Keyboard control made the FPS genre popular - that was in the 90's (thanks, ID software, PC gaming gurus, for making this mainstream). Fast forward to the the mid-late 2000's - FPS made it to consoles as an experiment and people caught up, but still the mouse/keyboard combination is still the superior t medium for aiming and moving. Again, if you are open minded enough to try this as an experiment, Microsoft has created an XBOX 360 controller available for the PC (as an extension for the PC gamers). Play COD4 one-on-one against a PC player who is using a mouse and keyboard. It is the same game as in XBOX but, big BUT, without AIM ASSIST. You'll be crying/whining at the PC gamer like a 8 year old for owning you. I am an XBox player myself, my history with playing games at console came way from the Atari 2600 through Nintendo Famicom, SEGA, PS1 to PS3, and now an Xbox,, and I acknowledge that the PC is a class on its own apart from the consoles.

The PC Gaming Alliance, sponsored by Microsoft, Epic Games, and plenty of other devs, did a wide study and found (last year) that there are over 250 million PC Gamers ONLINE ONLY (not including SP) worldwide. Compete with that. The PC is a viable platform for everyone, and it has many more owners than consoles - Bejewled, for example, has sold 25 million. That is phenomenal.

Maybe the numbers are too big for you to comprehend? I wrote them out the first time I posted..... So, follow along children. 135K is the same as 135,000 and 2.2 M is the same as 2,200,000. So try this DoTheMath, (135,000/2,200,000) then multiply that answer by 100. Hopefully you will end up with the correct answer of approximately 6.1% I know those decimal points can be tricky sometimes DoTheMath... but 0.61% of 2,200,000 is 13,420....

And yeah, I have a 360 and my favorite games are GTAIV, COD4. Halo, and GOW. For competitive play on COD4, I prefer to use my PC Q9650 overclocked with a nice spanking GTX 295 (soon to be Quad SLI'd). Just bought a new Logitech G500 gaming mouse to retire my Razer Deathadder/Logi G5 mouse.

As that was a little off topic, Dedicated Servers are the cream of PC competitive gaming. Very disappointing to say the least, I see Battlefield Bad Company 2 is an attractive alternative to MW2. Of course, I prefer mouse and keyboard for an FPS - it's clunky for the 360 controller. 360 is great for sports games like NBA, hockey, driving... we gotta choose which platform is best for a certain game to the most out of it.

i've never read so much sh*t in my life from console gamers. I have a PS3, Xbox, PS2, PS1 and a PC and i would rather play FPS on a PC and that is where the gaming community is and where the clan matches can be played.

Games are tailored to how the developers want the game, not always the best way of playing the game. The game will not grow from anything apart from whats in the box unless modders and developers work on new maps etc.

Lets face it the game was created and developed on a PC not a fkin console as they cant do that.

Well on a PC we dont have that problem as we can see all the servers and chose a server we know it will play well on. We can also change the maps, gametype without disconnecting or calling a vote.

The PC allows more "freedom" to play the game without relying so much on people hosting the game and therefore thats why the PC community is pissed as if we wanted to play the game on a console we would buy the console version..

If IW want us to play console then dont even release the game for the PC and console only which would have saved all the effort and protesting about issues.

PC-Gamers have to rely on a host to keep a server up also. Not 1 Person. But 1 Server. 3. In matchmaking the maps change, the game modes change, with out a vote. There is something called "Private Match" or "Custom Match". Where YOU get to customize your own match. From the Time/Score Limit to the Respawn # to the Restriction. Also choosing what map, and game mode. You can invite your friends, play a good Custom game, with Your rules, Good News. COST NOTHING! Welcome to the New Generation, where IW relies more on Console Gamers.

Yeah, and did you fail to realize that PC-Gamers also used to be able to play with more than 6 people at a time without lag because of the dedicated servers? Plus we had real communities revolving around having a place to meet up and play with the people we enjoy playing with? We can't do these things with IW.net. It's simply impossible. Private matches are not the same as a static server.

Also, IW.net isn't NEW for people who think it is. The name is new, but the concept is not. Red Faction Guerrilla, the new Operation Flashpoint, and many other games use the exact same system. Wonder why no one talks about how great the Multi-Play is in those games? Because it's not great that's why. Matchmaking simply doesn't work for PCs. It's just the way it is.

Operation Flashpoint is funny...read the box ....it mentions dedicated servers for alot of people to be able to play the game well.

Honestly this article is about the boycott, not what is better. I have not pre-ordered the game...I never do, rather I wait for reviews to see other opinions. However, I can say that I and 4 others will not buy this game upon release unless dedicated servers become supported. I just heard about all this news (no dedicated servers) and said to myself, well we need to boycott. Google searched and found there already is one. The truth is, this boycott has potential but the word needs to be spread. Thus, youtube videos, facebook profiles, and tweeter accounts MUST BE CREATED, specifically for this boycott. But more so, they must be created by people who already have a voice in the PC community. Like I said, I just head about this today and already I have hopped on the Boycott bandwagon. Let others know, spreading the news about the circumstances and the methods of dealing with these circumstances is our greatest weapon!

IW/Activision alredy knows all of this.. has well has we do, and they are well aware of what they are doing is in fact killing the PC Game/Comunity. At this point its better if we stoped trying to "explain" to them why dedicated servers are the only way...

I wholeheartedly agree with Mattieboy and John. If a tiny percentage of the PC gaming community wants to boycott Modern Warfare 2, then be my guest. I know that all Activition wants is money. So i dont think that they really care if .62 percent or whatever didnt buy the game. Infinity Ward had obviously spent a very long time in this oh so famous 'IW.NET' and im sure, for all of those who think that the matchmaking will be not have many options, I am sure that you will be able to customize a lot. I mean in crysis there was a lot of options for a 'Quick Game' so an ENTIRE multiplayer based off of matchmaking will, of course, have options. I am actually happy for IW.NET because in COD4 there would be like 4 servers and all of them were 64 man Free For All. And besides, this boycott thing will eventually die and everyone will fell so dumb and say 'Tuxraptor was right', and go buy the game.

The reason that people don't talk about the great multilplayer in those games is not because of matchmaking or lack of dedicated servers, its because the GAME is not that great. Everyone was talking about Halo 3's multiplayer, not because there was matchmaking or dedicated servers or whatever, it was because it was a GOOD GAME. My gaming career started with consoles, however growing up I did have many years (middle school through high school) playing PC and it has distinct advantages. Diablo, Starcraft, Counterstrike, AVP, even Sudden Strike, all of it was a lot of fun and dedicated servers meant EVERYTHING for a FPS game. Now I play on Xbox 360 and you know, I like FPS on it, the controls aren't half as terrible as PC users typically claim. In fact, on PC you can pull off ridiculous shots that no human could ever do with a gun which sort of ruins the feel for a game like COD to me but if that gameplay is preferred then by all means use it. Really we should just stop bickering amongst each other because PC may be able to influence changes from IW but what good is coming from PC vs Console debates? It's just a pointless argument. And yes the pre-order amount of loss would be 6.14% assuming that many people really did cancel. Substantial amount of money. Oh and if I can get enough money to upgrade, trust me I'll be back to enjoy Diablo 3 with you PC users one day.

I like the way that people are thinking that the boycotters are going to break down and buy the game, I know people who are going to just pirate the game (probably the reason for removing dedi servers in the first place) just to play the single player and carry on playing MW1's multiplayer.

The big thing in this is...MONEY....the whole reason behind this is so they can make more money off of DLC, they do not care about the PC gamer. It is cheaper for them to produce and make it, by making it like a console - less programing, codeing, so what they are trying to do is do away with "things" that are not important to them - not understanding that they are hurting everyone because they are greedy.

Here is what is going to happen - people who want this game for SP - will get it from a torrent, play the single player and move on - I know people that play COD just because it online, but other that like the stories and the plots - they will be losing tons of people because of this - watch the torrent sites, there will be cracks and such that may let them have DS - I have to say that I hate the way things are going with PC games.

One thinks i like doing is going to my fav server, hooking up with some clan members that fit my style of play - tactical, no run and gun - and play with the same group of guys and get to know them, then just play the way we all like to play - and to have someone there that wil kick the guys who do not follow the rules - and map making is a skill, it can stretch a game out for years - I was online the other day and still, there are game servers up for unreal tournament G.O.T.Y - custom maps rock - It is a shame - real shame

I have played with up to 64 players, correct me if im wrong PS3 players, but doesn't Resistance 2 have up to 64 player multiplayer. And also MAG which will introduce over 100 players in online MATCHMAKING. I play PC also, but the whole PC community and their whines and moans about dedicated servers make me want to go Console for a very very very long time. And it's not the Sigs that we "worry" about. Let me start by saying that all of the different platforms have their advantages and disadvantages. Xbox and PS3 are fantastic for racing and gta style games. PC's are fantastic for FSP's. I have used all of these and the PC is where I have a preference. To each his own. I think the reason that console gamers have a problem with us PC gamers is that they don't know what the developers have never given them. I do think that microsoft has made xbox live great and worth the nominal price, but thats all that you get. Here is a small example of what the console is missing and what PC users are a complaining about. This is a small list of custom maps that 1 mod server runs. Many are as good or better than the stock maps. And they are free. To the console gamers criticizing the cause: It really pisses me off the way the console gamers are ranting on us PC gamers for standing up for our games. They post their comments like they know what is going on, and how this affects the PC community. I am certain that most console gamers have no idea of the impact of this. What if instead of favoring consoles with Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward decided to cut multiplayer from consoles? Or made Modern Warfare 2 PC exclusive, like Call of Duty 1 was? For all the console gamers out there stating get over it and that the PC is only a small entity. As someone who has been playing PC and console first person shooters for over 10 years, it isn't just a PC players opinion that PC is better than console, it is a fact.

What IW is doing to PC users is as bad as dumbing down your console version of MW2 to only 600X800 resolution and being allowed to play on only 2 maps, with strangers.

The PC first person shooter community is used to playing with better graphics, better gaming type selection, and way more maps to chose from. I can't stand playing on an official COD server currently, because there are only a few maps available to play on, not over 100.

I don't understand how console players can say that PC players don't want to, or can't afford to purchase a console instead of a PC. My graphics cards in my PC costs more than your console.

I won't even get into how dedicated servers can adjust game physics such as gravity, movement speed, wall penetration, weapon damage, etc... to make it a more realistic combat simulation. Fewer "bunny hoppers", one shot kills from point blank range powerful weapons, etc... make for a more realistic and enjoyable gamin experience.

They are "dumbing down" the PC version of a first persion shooter to the level of a console game, just as if they dumbed down the console version of your first person shooter game to that of the old nintendo 64, or sega genesis. People don't want to pay more for a whole lot less and they won't.

honestly, i think that we should just deal with it as PC gamers. i mean, this isn't the first game that's played without deds. Meaning..no more can I go to a local lan and compete or just play with my friends I meet online when we get together, or inviting some friends over to my house and have a lan match...see the problem...???? First of all why can't we just say its personal preferance. You will never get everyone to agree either way. I think the biggest reason console gaming is bigger is because a parent can go out and buy a console for less money and its extremely simple. They hook it to the tv and don't have to learn how to use a computer. Whoever said pc guys can't afford a console is missing something. A console tends to be a hell of a lot cheaper than a high end gaming rig. Pc gaming is dead? If that's true then why do they release new video cards/ processors every few months and consoles come out every few years? I like the pc because I can do anything I want with it. We should be HAPPY that Infinity Ward is releasing this for the PC, not complaining about what they DON'T have. If the Xbox was dieing, would Bungie release their new halo game on a new console to ensure more sales? Of course! So we PC gamers should be happy that we get this game. I'm with tux. I will look at the reviews before I decide. The first one was too good to totally overlook this one. I understand standing up for what you believe in but doubt they will listen without the support of the rest of the gaming community. I just hope its better than we thought possible or someone comes up with some sort of solution or work around. They could always patch it later to add what we are asking for right? Not sure why it really matters what system you use.

I know that the game is finished, so the only way we could get dedicated servers is to have a patch later on. but they spent so much time and money on this game, so i dont think they will change it. when it gets a 9.9 from IGN then you know where i will be. Here is the story. This game became available a number of hours ago (31.10.2009) on newsgroups. From what I could find out, it has been stealth patched and is Region Free. People are even playing this online now (they are BEGGING to get banned IMO) and so far so good with nothing but great reviews. I wanted to wait for a scene release but since this is a highly anticipated game I decided to post it now. Of course this game is Wave 4 so you have been warned and advised. Play at your own risk!!!! This will be the first Cod game i don't buy, i own all of them, but ever since cod2, i've always played modded big servers, as i can't stand how you dumbed everything down and made it so 3 year old kids can play. Like your silly icons, showing nades, and bomb sites etc, even though your maps where only 2000 yards square, and made for 16 player consoles, and just ported over to PC. Also the hotkeys for nades etc, again just a port from consoles. But this never really bothered me, as i could find a hand full of servers that stripped all that crap you put in, and modded it out , to how a real FPS that men with testicles would play. No crosshairs, more realistic hit damage, and better teamwork and tactical gameplay, and lots of custom maps that where made far bigger then your console ports. I could go on and on but i wont. I will say though i use to love you IW and respect you, when you use to make a game from the ground up, for each platform. But you sold out, and became like most of the others, you don't stand out anymore. So you have now taken what bit of fun i could get for my money away, well done, i've lined your pockets like all of us have, well no more. You go on about piracy, yet your only still about because we bought your products, talk about bit the hand off that feeds you. Shame on you.

Why do people with consoles defend their consoles and then go on and complain that they have to pay for new content when theyre at home playing? Isnt that you you hated to begin with, why are you defending it? Stop complaining about how things run and then go onto defending it when an "outsider" makes a comment on your console. At that point, you should become best friends, not enemies. You both carry the same message.

Cod4 on PC was not like that. New maps? No problem. They were free to download and play. So give an attempt to understanding what pc gamers are used to and how its bullshit that a company not only raises the price, but makes the pc version exactly like the console version. Nevermind the fact that robert bowling clearly stated, "the pc version will be what it always was". Clearly he lied.

There were a lot of deceptions. The biggest are how they waited until a few weeks before the release to mention all this important information about how the game is going to work. They teased us over and over again, we welcomed it, and just before the release, they pull this bullshit on us. So again, try to understand what is really going on here. This isnt about a rivalry between pc and consoles, its about what assholes activision is for pulling this prank on so many people.

The idea of rivalry between consoles (snes and sega in my childhood) was fun and great at the time, but not when youre conscious and well aware about whats going on.

If the PC and Console versions are indeed the same (which is what Bobert Rowling (LOL) said), then we may have the ability to play Cross-console. if IW.NET handles the servers, i think this may be a possibility. Cross-platform servers would be great although might give some players greater advantages. I think we cal all be sure that the PC controls are much better than the console ones. so if we indeed CAN play Cross-platform, we can be sure that console gamers will be pissed off to hell when i kill them each 14 times in a game.

Forget the arguments between console and pc gamers. They are childish and pointless and do not solve anything.

Last i looked there were over 186000 sigs on the petition. Multiply that by $60 a pop and IW is looking at a loss of OVER $$11 MILLION DOLLARS$$ (assuming everybody that signed it sticks to their guns.) Whether this makes enough of an impact to make them change their minds or not, it is still a nice "FUCK YOU TOO" to IW.

No matter the outcome, I'm still not buying the damn thing because I'm sick of hearing about it.

I can't believe the flaming against PC's going on here. I have a gaming PC and a PS3. and let me say from an unbiased viewpoint, that first person shooters on PC are wayyyy better. console games shove DLC down your throat and make you pay absurd prices for it. while PC gamers are used to getting new maps for free, or ever making their own maps with modding. Consoles are fun, but they are so restricted in terms of multiplayer content. for one you cannot tweak game setting or mod them in any way. you cannot play mod maps on console, and the auto aim on console shooters is pathertic, why have they not implemented a mouse and fucking keyboard yet? I play console and PC and you just cant compare the two, PC fucking kills console. If cross platform multiplayer ever came around, the PC players would fuck you tools over so hard that you would cancel your Live service in a heartbeat. PC's were out before consoles and had online content 10 years before consoles cought up, give the PC credit were it is due you dumbfucks. I love consoles as much as the next guy and own one but if you can afford a good gaming PC, first person shooters are soooo much better.

Seriously, people, whichever side of the console vs. PC debate you fall on, there's no reason to leave maturity, respect, and civility at the door. There's absolutely no need for insults and vitriol, and we should be able to discuss the matter like grownups.

At this point I'm almost purely a PC gamer, and the advantages a PC provides fit what I'm looking for better than those of a console. I was all kinds of psyched about this game before the news about the crippled multiplayer came out, and for me that's a deal breaker. Maybe I'll get it on a Steam sale in a few years for the single player, but I see no point in paying any amount of money for it right now.

People should boycott this game just based on the overpricing alone 60$usd wtf. I bought the game before I knew about the bs like steam and no dedicated. Its basically the same game as the first one. One player mode your pushed through a 5 hour cut scene with no strategy shooting. Not worth it wont be buying any more IW products.

I recently bought this game for the PC, and it IS fun. However, I ran into some large amounts of lag while online. The host migration thing works, but when the game is laggy it takes about a minute to change hosts for better results. The single player is fun, however it is quite short. I have been playing multiplayer since and it is quite fun to get an 11 kill streak and wreak havoc with the Chopper Gunner. I would suggest getting this game from Fry's, because i bought it for 45$.

I rate this game a 9.2/10.
