South African videogame importer and distributor, Megarom Interactive, has today announced the effects of the global price increase for the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the local market.
While it’s already been announced that the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 would see a price hike in the US and UK, at $59.99 and £44.99 respectively, today we know what kind of knock-on effect these price increases have on the South African gamers.
South African PC gamers can expect to pay a recommended retail price (RRP) of R499.99 on release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (no official release date confirmed, as yet), while prices for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game remain at R699.99 each.
Not very good news for PC gamers, then, as the previous price announced for the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 was R399, which some may have already considered expensive.

... and then they wonder why there's so much piracy ...
Yah, but they say the prices are high because of piracy. If the price is R499, they sell 50 and 4950 people pirate it. If the price is R50 they sell 5000, nobody pirates it because bandwidth is more expensive than the cost of the DVD and packaging from a retailer.
What's wrong with these people.
I agree wholeheartedly with you guys. I refuse to pay R500 for a PC game, much less R700 for the Xbox version. Drop the price and more people will buy it. Valve proved this! http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/57308
When will the game manufacturers wake up? I remember going to Defcon5 to buy "real" copies of games, and the store owner informed me that all the EA label games in his shop are originals. EA Games apparantly approached him and rather than slam a lawsuit on him for selling pirated goods, they dropped their prices of their games to match the pirated ones. Now for me, i would rather buy an original at the same price as the pirated version. The concept works! Wake up game distributors!
Well, if it is another 6 hour game, that makes it R 83.33 per hour to play this game, it must be the best game ever for me to consider buying. I can't play online, so that doesn't help for me.
There are MUCH better games comming out this festive season, so I won't mind not giving my hard earned money to play MW2...
Yo ho, yo ho, still a pirate's life for me
Torrents....need I say more?
what this is the boom
Yeah, this is terrific news. Now it is the same price as console games. I hope they suffer from their filthy greed. Everything costs way too much these days.
