Rumours are being kicked up about a new Tomb Raider movie currently in the works, including how it plans to re-imagine Lara Croft’s story and background.
Movie consumer site Empire is reporting that Warner Bros. is currently working on the third Tomb Raider movie, following the ‘OK but not great’ franchise movies of 2001 and 2003.
Of some interest is the idea that the third movie would be a ‘re-imagining’ of the Tomb Raider series, essentially ‘rebooting’ the franchise and changing Lara Croft’s origins, introducing a love interest and setting up a new antagonist.
There is apparently no cast, writer or director just yet, so this will probably be something to ‘look forward to’ rather than expect any time soon.
These rumours are circulating amidst the news and ongoing developments of Warner’s bid to acquire Eidos, the holder of the Tomb Raider license, as well as a slump in the sales performance of the latest Tomb Raider game, Underworld.

Comments:
I think Eidos should talk to Naughty Dog - how awesome would it be to have Nathan Drake as Lara's love interest? Not to mention a game with the two of them would be packed full of action, corny one-liners and big guns.
We can dream... ;)
Are we SURE that it's a good idea to team Drake up with Croft? Both of them have hero complexes, and they'll be fighting for screen time. I think ultimately, when you do a mix n match in that way, you end up with a weaker game. But then again, the Croft franchise hasn't exactly been strong lately, has it?
You raise a good point about them competing for screen time. Maybe we could just have a guest appearance by one of them - I think it would be interesting to see them pair up, even for a brief time!
I personally think if the change laras oriegns they are making a big mistake they will make her someone she isn't and i don't think that is right coz the whole idea is that she is a posh rich DOWN TO EARTH person with out that she will be nothing!
